1930s Green, Beige & Brown Suede Clutch Bag
A beautifully preserved suede clutch from the 1930s, this piece embodies the refined elegance and inventive spirit of interwar design. Its front panel presents a geometric composition in pale green, beige, and warm brown suede — a subtle yet striking expression of the Art Deco aesthetic, celebrating balance, form, and modernity.
On the reverse lies a detail both practical and poetic: the original glove strap. Today a nearly forgotten feature, it once served an essential purpose. In the early twentieth century, gloves were a daily accessory — symbols of propriety and style - and this strap allowed the wearer to carry them gracefully when not in use, discreetly positioned at the back to preserve the clutch’s sleek silhouette. The feature reflects a time when fashion design was both functional and deeply mannered, uniting decorum with artistry.
The clutch closes with a simple brass snap. Its structure and color remain remarkably intact, a testament to the enduring quality of craftsmanship from this era.
This piece stands not only as an elegant accessory but also as a small chapter in fashion history, capturing the transition between the formal sophistication of the 1920s and the modernist confidence of the 1930s.
Excellent vintage condition, with original colour and form beautifully preserved.
