1940s Sculptural Cocktail Bracelet

1940s Sculptural Cocktail Bracelet

A cocktail bracelet constructed in heavy solid brass and finished with 18K gold plating.

The bracelet comprises twelve articulated sections, each constructed from a series of closely spaced, curved brass ribs. The sections are joined by visible mechanical hinges, allowing the bracelet to flex naturally around the wrist.

The repeated curved ribs create a distinctive undulating, architectural surface, with each section moving independently against the next. Rather than concealing its construction, the bracelet makes its mechanical movement an integral part of the design.

Measuring approximately 19 cm in length and 2 cm in width, the bracelet has a broad profile and considerable weight. Its complex construction and articulated movement give the piece a strong sculptural quality.

The design reflects the bold, sculptural character of jewellery produced during the 1940s, when scale, movement and construction were important elements of cocktail jewellery. The influence of contemporary engineering and the Machine Age can be seen in the repeated ribs, hinged sections and deliberately mechanical character of the design.
