Horse Brooch 1962 by Grossé
A very rare and collectible brooch, this playful piece depicts a stylised horse or pony crafted in gold plated brass metal. A single pink rhinestone marks the eye while one red and two green rhinestones accent a bow at the tail. The design features a braided metallic tail, a textured forelock and a body punctured with numerous small holes to create intricate texture, giving the piece depth and vitality. The expressive form captures the refined animal motifs for which Grossé was celebrated in mid twentieth century costume jewellery.
Made in Germany in 1962, the brooch is consistent in style and construction with pieces produced by Grossé of Pforzheim, a firm renowned for precision workmanship and high quality gold plating. Grossé frequently signed and dated their jewellery and their pieces are highly sought after by collectors.
In 1955 the company held the licence to manufacture Christian Dior jewellery designs and its work from this era often reflects the elegance and sophistication of couture accessories.
This brooch is a beautifully preserved example of German costume jewellery, combining expressive design, quality materials, and enduring appeal.
