Italian Art Glass Apothecary Jar 1950s
Hand blown Italian art glass covered jar dating to circa 1950s, featuring a transparent rich green body and a sculptural conical lid with elongated finial. The vessel displays refined midcentury proportions and a softly rounded profile characteristic of Italian glass design of the era.
The jar is blown as a single continuous hollow form, with the lower section shaped during the blowing process rather than constructed with an applied or separately formed foot. The interior remains hollow throughout and the uninterrupted flow of glass reflects skilled hand craftsmanship. Subtle variations in thickness and form are consistent with traditional mouth blown techniques.
Unmarked.
Attributed to Italy based on form, technique and material. While visually comparable lidded jars are often broadly labeled “Empoli” in the market, this term refers to a regional production area rather than a specific maker and such attributions are frequently made without documentation. Similar lidded forms were also produced by Murano workshops during the period. In the absence of a signature or original label, this piece is most accurately described as Italian midcentury art glass.
A strong decorative example suitable for display as a lidded vessel, bonbon jar or apothecary style form.
