Enamel Tulip Bouquet Brooch by Coro
This enamel tulip bouquet brooch by Coro is designed as a graceful floral spray, featuring stylised tulip blossoms arranged in a flowing, sculptural composition. The petals and leaves are rendered in multicolour enamel, with carefully placed rhinestones accenting the flower centres and stems, adding sparkle and visual contrast to the richly coloured surface.
The spray design allows the flowers and foliage to fan outward from a central point, creating a natural sense of movement and depth. Figural floral brooches of this type were especially popular during the 1940s, when enamel and crystal accents were widely used to bring colour, dimension and elegance to costume jewellery.
Executed in gold toned metal, the brooch secures with a hinged pin and safety clasp on the reverse, a construction detail consistent with Coro’s production of the period. Visual comparison confirms an identical signed example, firmly attributing this design to Coro, one of the most influential American costume jewellery houses of the twentieth century. Many floral designs from this era were created under the artistic direction of Adolph Katz, whose work helped define Coro’s refined yet wearable aesthetic.
This brooch is a beautifully preserved example of American costume jewellery, capturing the elegance and expressive design language of early 1940s fashion.
